AAB's sweet NOTHING

“I have heard many statements and reports. This all sounds very good and fair and is also very nice to hear. But please remember that equality does not always mean fairness.

“Equal distribution is not necessarily fair if the fate of the underprivileged is not taken care of and their rights not defended.

“I am not just talking about bumiputras. I am also referring to the Chinese and Indian communities.”

Guess who said those words?

Lim Kit Siang? Nik Aziz?

Nah, it was none other than UMNO Pak Lah.

Can you beat it - AAB said ensuring equality in administering Penang would not mean fairness if only the rich continued to benefit. This coming from UMNO? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Yes, he had to take an obligatory swipe at the DAP-led Penang Government which has pledged to be transparent and implement an open tender system.

But what credibility does he have other than making sweet music to the already converted. Even the Muslim traders of Penang support LIM GE’s policies.

The new Selangor government has announced the continuation of ‘zero squatter policy’. The policy is among the reasons for the unpopularity of former Selangor government. The yet to be registered Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) was the main champion of the squatters particularly in Kampung Berembang incident in 2006.

It is PSM’s call now and they should demonstrate their position very clearly and loudly to Tan Sri Khalid plans and honour their promises to the people. The issue is not whether the government will invoke Emergency Ordinance, Clearance of Squatters Regulation 1969 as pointed out by the respected president, Dr Nasir Hashim (which was an extreme measure even at the standard of former government). Policies on the squatters and eradication of poverty should be designed by PSM for the state. And this will be their actual intellectual contribution for the people. On the other side, the state government must recognise and respect the role played by PSM over the years defending the oppressed and as most genuine ideologically based party.

If PSM continues to be silent, sad to say, it will be seen in cohorts with purely capitalist interest. And one bound to ask, if push come to shove, do our newly elected PSM leaders prepared to resign?

  • Dear KTemoc, I have been following your writings for over a year now. Often I felt sad that a good writer like yourself is not forgiving Anwar of his past deeds. But now of late, it makes one suspect if what you been saying is true, its very terrying. This in particular, the 'anwaritas' who are all over the net (MT & Mkini in particular) trying to shape and direct discussion to idolize Anwar as the only hope for Malaysia and as only leader who brought together PAS-DAP. They are just opposite to the spinning by MSM. And very aggresive to any form of criticism against Anwar. Its ok if you critise DAP or PAS but never Anwar/Keadilan. It is so serious that one have to read "lowly Rated Comments" to get good ideas and discussions.

Can this be mere co incident or well planned (and planted) spinning agents with clear idea of media power?

And its chilling to think if this are the people going to lead us. [sorry earlier posting, was suppose to follow this note but, as I am first timer, I fumbled along the way and the message got deleted] siva

  • You misunderstand our beloved PM, His High and Mightiness, Mr AAB. When he speaks of fairness, he is not being racist. he is only thinking of his poor kakis like patrick, Semi Value and Kris Hishamuddin. Transparency is a danger to BN. People get angry when only his kakis get the kontraks. But you must agree that people also get angry is a girl wears a transparent dress...not all, of cosurse. But people like the mullahs in UMNo will gte angry, avert their eyes to cries of 'haram, haram' and call for the ISA to be used. Of course "ISA" is the name of "Nabi Isa" (Jesus)and so it is holy. So bear in mind that the PM means well when he thinks of his kakis.

  • Abdullah Badawi solely to be blamed for the dismal result?

It's a sad fact of life that when one is down, one is left to stand alone. One is asked to shoulder all blame though, in life, this is never the case. One is isolated, cast to the wolves. In worst cases, the ones one has helped and whom one has placed one's faith in, joined with the crowd to go for one's blood. All these, from the mildest to the worst scenarios, are now being played out in UMNO!

Having been through one month of humiliation, he must be at his lowest, right now. For all his faults, this treatment meted out to him is not fair. If, the UMNO people do not want to speak out for him, the rakyat should.

The present state of the nation (the emergence of the 2-party system), which we think is good for the nation, would not have come about if not for AAB's more tolerant and liberal attitude.

A more basic consideration is the human values. What democratic principles are we talking about if we don't offer a peron his basic right - the democratic right to dignity and respect!
